How to play Sudoku

Fill each row, column and 3 × 3 box with the numbers 1–9, using each number once. Starting numbers stay fixed. Select an empty square and enter a number using the buttons or your keyboard. Use Notes to keep track of possibilities, Undo to revisit an entry, and Hint for help with a next step.

Choose your puzzle

Choose Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert, or play the daily puzzle. Generated puzzles are checked for a unique solution. The displayed difficulty reflects the techniques assessed by this game. Progress saves in this browser, with regular and daily puzzles stored separately. You can also play Klondike Solitaire or play Mahjong Solitaire.

Can I play without mistake checking?

Yes. Turn off Show mistakes to solve without automatic error highlighting.

Can I come back to an unfinished puzzle?

Yes. Your answers, notes and timer save locally when browser storage is available. Clearing browser data removes those saves.

Is Sudoku free?

Yes. Puzzles, notes, hints and Undo are free, with no registration.
